Pickleball is a growing sport in the UK and across the world. It is particularly popular amongst u3a members as there is not too much running around. We are a friendly group, include all abilities and have a lot of fun. The rules of pickleball are very simple, and the game is easy for beginners, so whether you are a beginner or an expert at racquet sports such as badminton, tennis or table tennis, do contact us, if you would like to join us at the Haltemprice Leisure Centre.
All u3a Pickleball players are expected to be Haltemprice members. Haltemprice Leisure Centre offers a variety of membership packages, with the Afternoon Premier membership being the most popular choice among regular players. At present, this membership costs £15.50 per month via Direct Debit. It grants access between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, not only for our pickleball group to book courts daily during these hours but also for individuals to enjoy the centre’s other facilities and activities, including swimming, fitness classes, and the gym.
In addition to the Wednesday group session, which takes place from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, we also have a Tuesday group. The Wednesday group is currently full, but we do have some vacancies for new members in the Tuesday group (also from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm) . That said, once you have joined, we may be able to offer Wednesday sessions on an ad hoc basis when spaces become available.
If you have never played pickleball before, you are welcome to try it out before joining the group. We offer two free taster sessions, and if you do not have your own paddle, we can lend you one for these sessions while you decide if the game is right for you. Haltemprice Leisure Centre does offer paddle hire; however, we believe it is more cost-effective to invest in your own paddle once you have decided to be a regular pickler.
