Group Coordinator News
Please contact our Group Coordinator, Chris Watson, if you have any ideas for a new interest group, or if you have any other suggestions concerning our groups.
The Summer Holidays can sometimes be a quieter time for groups with people being away or on ‘Grandparent Duty’ but hopefully by the time you read this, routine will be returning. More members would be welcome for the Badminton group especially, but most groups have space for new members if you contact the Group leaders. The Pickleball groups continue to grow, and most groups are enjoying welcoming the new
AWAKE members. The possibility of a Line Dancing group is still being followed up (sorry it’s being a slow process) and Mark, our new Chair is willing to run a beginners’ Chess Group if there is any interest. If you have any queries about existing groups or have any suggestions for new groups please get in touch with Chris Watson.
The Family History group is now meeting alongside the Computer group, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at The Beech Tree. New members are always welcome.
We now have quite a few venues for groups to use, for example Men in Sheds, Anlaby Village Hall and several others.
Group Leader News
Could you be a Group Leader? A Group could be 100 people in a rented space, or just 2 people sharing an interest around a kitchen table. You don't need to be an expert in a subject to be a Group Leader - you just need to be the one who can bring a group of like-minded people together. So if you have an idea for a new group please get in touch with me, Chris Watson. You will get help and support and also a feeling of achievement when your idea is successful. Don’t forget the u3a is all about passing on our knowledge or interests to others, giving as well as receiving.
Ideas for new groups are always needed. I am sure there must be lots of ideas out there, so do please let us have them. Gardening? Astronomy? German? Golf? Croquet? Sign Language? A 1950's coffee bar group? A 1960's/70's Group? If you would be interested in joining any of these suggested groups, please let our Group Coordinator, Chris Watson know. If there is enough interest shown, we can start up the Group!
We would like to see if there is any interest in bringing the Gardening group back. I have had an offer from a lady who may be willing to lead this group.
We are also hoping to start new beginners’ groups in French to complement the existing groups that are oversubscribed. If you have an interest or activity that we do not have a group for, there may be one in a neighbouring u3a.
Please contact our Group Coordinator, Chris Watson, if you have ideas for a new interest group. BE ADVENTUROUS - have a chat with any of the existing interest group leaders, all of whom are volunteers, and you might find it’s not as daunting as you think!!!!
